Lyndale & 24th

An unflinchingly vivid song cycle of regret, nuance, and depth, Lyndale & 24th is about having a body at a particular place in time; a meditation on being twenty-something in the Minneapolis of the 90s: getting high, looking for parties, hanging out at Hidden Beach, drinking coffee at the original Muddy Waters. Annie avoids metaphor in favor of unembellished images and factual accounting, which lend a stark intimacy to the piece. Shot through with a celebratory dark ache, Lyndale & 24th may be Annie’s most daring work yet.

If you lived there then, you'll know it. If you didn't, you'll still know it, because, somehow, even though these aren't your stories, you've lived in them. You see your own ghosts hanging around their edges, smoking on the blanket at the beach, coming down off of acid on a roof near the 94 bridge, laughing and desperate, looking to understand the world around you, tethered to appetites that left you hungry, and fed by the unexpected. This is a work that finds forgotten broken places, all while reminding that we are always becoming.
